At Global Intent, we have three passions that really stand out as distinctives:
- We are passionate about God.
- We are passionate about Unreached People Groups.
- We are passionate about work.
As a tentmaking organization, a lot of people would wonder why I don’t put tentmaking in those passions. The reason is that tentmaking is inherent in the love of those other three. Tentmaking is at the intersection of passion for God, passion for the unreached and passion for work. By stating those three, it is a given that we are passionate about tentmaking.
So, yes, we are passionate about work, but not in isolation. Work has its greatest value when it is tied to commitment to God and commitment to seeing his name proclaimed among the unreached.
There is an historical figure who had a similar passion for work that is integrated into spiritual life, namely, Benedict of Nursia who phrased it this way, “Ora et Labora.” This Latin phrase meaning “Prayer and work” describes the lives of Benedictine monks but it also has a lesson for us. As much as we love hearty, honest work, it’s incomplete without the spiritual focus of the One who gave us work. Connect your work to prayer, to a spiritual focus on the task God has put in our hands, namely, to take the Good News about Jesus to a dying world.
